Will it Flail? Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible II

This is not the short feature I intended to premiere this week, but my father just lost his job of 15 years and helping him's got to be my priority here. So for now, a slightly easier to deal with special feature entitled:



(With apologies to Will it Blend?, probably the best way to advertise a blender I have ever seen)

In Will it Flail? we take a brief look at a JRPG and exactly how difficult it is to play for non-speakers of Japanese, and all the factors that would obstruct you in this goal. Basically I was inspired to do this by Romancing Saga 2, which took forever and I couldn't even finish. So let's do some shorter stuff, and maybe save somebody else from my fate!

Flailing Through Dragon Quest 6, Day 2.

On our second day of Dragon Quest 6, I start out by searching the village for more than just a save point, which as I mentioned is a priest... which, since my character seems to be a young man, frightens me. That horror out of the way, it's time to start exploring the wonderful little village here to see what we can find.

Flailing Through Dragon Quest VI - Day 1

Well, it's been a while since I've been on, and I'm here to tell you that rumors of my death have been slightly exaggerated. I know I said months ago that my next review was going to be Dragon Quest VI, but I'm sorry to inform you that instead, I'm going to be reviewing Dragon Quest 6. Why the sudden change in plans? Because I can't read Roman numerals, that's why. Seriously, what the hell is XVIIV, anyway?

So, in the time between this review and my last one, I've made a few investments in the hope of making this site more interesting. The first was a good computer, so that we don't have to take photographs of a TV screen all the time, and the other... well, you'll see in the coming weeks, I'm sure.

Now, on with the show.

Romancing Saga 2 FINAL: Not a Bang or a Whimper, but Many, Many Bad Words

So we cross the bridge. Hey, it's Ursula! She's lost some weight since The Little Mermaid.


It's actual name is Subie. I almost wonder if it's related to Jimmy the Narwhal Sparklepire. The sprite doesn't really accurately portray the fact that he has tentacle dreadlocks, though. We fight a while, Renya loses 2 LP and Lance one, and then...


We get flashes of all the dead Heroes we've fought.


Subie retreats, and I get a yes/no question. We'll go with the traditional first answer! ...which equates, again, to "Ikuzo!"

Romancing Saga 2: Should I Matte or should I Ikuzo?

We walk onto this circle and sink into the ground.


The dungeon seems to be at least partially under water, or possibly an energy field... but if I'm seeing correctly that would make it an energy field full of fish, so let's call it water. Either way, its role is to obscure monster placement so I do as much fighting as possible before the bosses, duh.

Romancing Saga 2: Into the Frozen South

The children of Avalon see me off with a hearty KyaaKyaa and WaiWai, and we're off to battle. We glide through the octopus-infested icefields of south Nazerle...



...and sure enough, we've got a new area.

Final Fantasy VI - Day 34 (This is the end... my only friend, the end)

Alright time to find out what the hell is going on. If you remember from my last post, Celes walked to the left and the path closed behind her, so now it's time to see where this path takes me. There's a switch above, so I'm gonna go stand on it. Nothing continues to happen. I head down and exit to another room:

Silly Kefka. Everybody knows that 1- or 10- ton weights are Cartoon Standard denominations!
So I... get to drop a weight on Tina's head? Awe...some?
